Aboriginal Science Fiction, Summer 1992 Featured Story: "Sid Dex: Once a Classic, Always a Classic" by Anthony P. Russo This alternate-history science fiction detective story, illustrated by Charles Lang, introduces private investigator Sidney M. Dexter in a futuristic Chicago populated with starfreighters and monorails. When Vincente Raphael, the recently unemployed valet of Duke Lionel Pettingworth, visits Dexter's newly established office, he enlists the inexperienced detective to locate a missing key. The key opens the late Duke's 1929 Rolls-Royce Silver Phaeton, currently locked in Chicago customs, which contains Raphael's inheritance. The car, which the Duke carried on international travels, arrived via British Skytrain after the Duke's death upon arriving in Chicago via bullet train from the Transcontinen­tal Tunnel. Dexter accepts the case on a contingency basis. The narrative reveals Dexter's background as a former military intelligence officer and Chicago police officer, and follows him investigating the mystery aboard the magneto-lift monorail into New Town Chicago, built following the 1939 World's Fair.
