Air Stories

This February 1938 *Air Stories* magazine issue collects aerial fiction and nonfiction. The centerpiece is "The Invisible Raiders" by Robert Magnus, a long mystery thriller set in 1918 on the Western Front, opening with Lieutenant Stumperton—nicknamed "Stumbler" for his clumsy awkwardness on the ground, yet an accomplished Sopwith Camel pilot—causing comedic chaos during a mess-room tea. Captain Hardy notes strange German activity suggesting an upcoming threat. The issue also features "D's for David" by Lt.-Cmdr. M.O.W. Miller, following a Fleet Air Arm pilot's combat record, and "The Gentleman from Java" by Capt. J.E. Gurdon, D.F.C., depicting a Hawker Hart plane used as bait in a secret-service trap. Additional content includes non-fiction pieces on the Richthofen Circus and notable aircraft, plus humor and technical sections.
