Amazing Stories (UK), Vol. 1, No. 20
The Empire of Women This issue contains three science-fiction stories. "The Empire of Women," a novelette by John Fletcher (illustrated by Leo Ramon Summons and Ed Yaligursky), depicts a world of women that has repelled all attacks; a single smooth-talking man may be the only weapon capable of overthrowing this female-dominated civilization. "Come to Venus—and Die!", a novelette by F. Willard Gray (illustrated by Lawrence), follows a pilot hired by a girl to search for her father in the Venusian jungle; unexpectedly, various factions want to prevent him from reaching his destination. "Monkey in the Ice Box," a short story by Gerald Vance (illustrated by Tom Beecham), involves Joe and Scorp, who lose hope when pursued by pirates with a cargo of dangerous materials, until they discover a frozen creature. The issue opens with editorial commentary on prior reader responses to claims about extraterrestrial life, alongside advertisements for fitness courses, career guidance, and smoking-cessation products.
