Amazing Stories, Vol. 2 No. 9

This December issue of Amazing Stories contains both classic scientific romance and contemporary technology fiction. Jules Verne's "Robur the Conqueror: or The Clipper of the Air" appears serialized in part one, depicting Robur's aircraft and the attempts of two military officers to understand lighter-than-air technology. H.G. Wells's "The Country of the Blind" is included. Other stories feature "Hicks' Inventions with a Kick" by Harry Hugh Simmons, J. Rodman's "The Undersea Express," Charles H. Rector's "Crystals of Growth," Miles J. Brewer's "The Riot at Sanderac," and George Paul Bauer's "Below the Infra Red," in which scientists employ headgear to adjust perception and elevate physical vibration to access higher planes. Editor Hugo Gernsback's column discusses scientific acceptance of novel ideas, contrasting past skepticism toward Galileo and Einstein with contemporary openness to scientifiction concepts.
