Amazing Stories, March 1973
This March 1973 issue of *Amazing* magazine contains Jack Vance's novel-in-serial "Trullion: Alastor 2262," set in a thirty-thousand-star galactic cluster governed by a ruler called the Connatic. The story opens with descriptions of the cluster's structure, the leader Oman Ursht's character and philosophy, and focuses on the planet Trullion, a world of abundant natural resources where its inhabitants, the Trill, have abandoned competitive labor for leisurely pursuits. The issue also features short stories by George Alec Effinger ("Hard Times"), Joe Haldeman ("Two Men and a Rock"), and Thomas F. Monteleone ("Agony in the Garden"). Additional content includes an editorial by Ted White discussing science fiction conventions, a continuing feature "The Enchanted Duplicator" by Bob Shaw and Walt Willis, and Greg Benford's science column.
