Astounding Science Fiction, British Edition

This October 1956 British edition of *Astounding Science Fiction* contains two short novels, three stories, and an article. Everett B. Cole's "The Missionaries" follows Klion Meinora, a former spacer-turned-teacher, who encounters his old Guard colleague Boreel Sanathor, now a Sector Philosophical Officer. Meinora reports discovering an attempted infiltration conquest on the recently Federation-allied planet Huilon. Raymond F. Jones's "Academy for Pioneers" appears at page 52. The issue includes John A. Sentry's "Psioid Charley" and Varley Lang's "Thereby Hangs." Isaac Asimov contributes the non-fiction piece "The Abnormality of Being Normal." Editor John W. Campbell's lengthy editorial addresses critiques of parapsychology research, discussing Dr. George R. Price's arguments against psi phenomena and defending the scientific legitimacy of levitation cases. The issue features cover art by Van Dongen and interior illustrations by Emsh, Freas, and Van Dongen.
