The Cruise of the Sea Wolf; or, The Boy Duellist

Catalog Note *The Cruise of the Sea Wolf; or, The Boy Duelist* by Colonel Prentiss Ingraham is a maritime adventure serial appearing in Beadle's Half-Dime Library (1897). Two fugitives escape by sloop with stolen gold after committing robbery. During a violent struggle aboard the small vessel, one man (the boatswain) hurls his companion (Brentford) into the sea and abandons him. Brentford, however, survives and eventually encounters a passing sloop piloted by young Enoch Blanchard, a fifteen-year-old boy. Enoch rescues the drowning man and brings him to his family's cottage. Captain Martin Blanchard and his wife recognize their unexpected guest as Oliver Eustace, an old rival from their youth who had disappeared years ago after being cut off by his father. As Oliver recovers under their care, the family reflects on past romantic entanglements and the strange workings of fate.
