This issue of a pulp weekly from June 21, 1887, features "The Jolly Pards' All-For-Love Campaign: A Romance of the Golden State" by Philip S. Warne. The narrative follows the Three Jolly Pards—Dick Johnson, Tom Murphy, and young Harry Keene—in the mining camp of Paddy's Flat. When a marshal named Jim Gladden forms a posse, the boys' enthusiastic endorsement results in the teenage Harry being appointed deputy marshal. Tom and Dick then visit old Abraham's clothing store to celebrate Harry's promotion with the Jewish merchant and his family. There they witness Harry meeting Miriam, Abraham's beautiful daughter, whom the old man has kept secluded and disguised during outings for protection. Harry and Miriam experience mutual attraction, blushing in each other's presence. The narrative emphasizes their youth and innocence as romance develops between them.
