Deadwood Dick Jr.'s Decrees This installment of the ongoing serial continues Dick's investigation in Jackpot City. Dick receives a message from Miss Nellie Prince requesting a meeting, but it proves a ruse—he's ambushed near the mill by three attackers including Podesta, a "Danite." The mysterious red-whiskered stranger Ike Davis intervenes, driving off the assailants and revealing himself as the brother of a murdered woman, seeking vengeance on Morton Meredith. Davis claims Meredith, who abandoned Henry Kirke's widow in Carson, now resides in Jackpot City. Dick and Davis strike a bargain: Dick agrees to arrest Meredith for Carson authorities rather than allow vigilante justice, and to split the Kirke fortune with Davis. Under threat of Davis's revolver, Dick dresses and accompanies Davis to retrieve the hidden money before dawn breaks over the camp.
