Beadle's Half Dime Library No. 911
Bowery Bob, the East-side Detective This serial by Harold Payne follows the detective Robert "Bowery Bob" Gaylord as he uncovers a conspiracy. Bob overhears two men on a late-night ferry between New York and Brooklyn discussing plans to blow up a mill with dynamite to settle a score with a wealthy man. After shadowing the suspects through Lower Manhattan, Bob is visited at his Mulberry Street office by Nathan Headly, a private detective employed by a Brooklyn factory owner. Headly claims his factory faces destruction from discharged workers plotting an attack. He reveals that dynamite has already been discovered hidden in the factory basement, and fears corruption among the watchmen. Headly requests Bob's assistance in identifying and arresting the conspirators before they strike. Bob agrees to investigate and prepares to visit the factory that night.
