Beadle's Half Dime Library No. 928

This issue of *Beadle and Adams'* weekly contains "The Irishman's Sweepstakes" by Edward L. Wheeler, author of the Deadwood Dick novels, serialized under the subtitle "Deadwood Dick, Jr., at Dollarville." The story opens in Dollarville, a prosperous mining and ranching town, where the bank has been robbed and the night watchman, Peter Watkins, murdered by gunshot. Cashier James Trillman discovers the crime; the safe was opened without forced entry. District Attorney Spraker investigates and finds a cuff button belonging to Trillman near the safe. When Trillman's revolver is examined, one chamber is found empty and recently fired. Though the town's leading citizens believe Trillman innocent, ballistic evidence matches his gun to the murder weapon. At the coroner's inquest, Trillman is held for trial on charges of murder and bank robbery, dividing public opinion, though most respectable citizens suspect his innocence.
