Catalog Note This issue of *Beadle's Dime Novel*, Number 526, contains "Hearts Forever; or, The Old Dominion Battle-Grounds," a historical romance by N. C. Iron set during 1782. The narrative opens during the American Revolutionary War's Northern Campaign of 1781, with the British under Cornwallis ravaging Virginia while Washington and Rochambeau march toward Yorktown. A solitary man ventures through a storm-wracked forest to exhume a buried iron pot containing fifty thousand dollars in gold he concealed in 1778, selfishly withholding his wealth from the struggling Continental cause. A tree crashes over the grave during the retrieval. The story shifts to the estate of Louis Beaumont, a patriotic Virginia planter who has devoted half his property to the cause of independence while his son Randolph serves as a captain in Washington's army. Beaumont and his beautiful daughter Adeline celebrate news that Randolph will soon return home. Their enslaved servants Carlos and Dinah prepare to receive him.
