Red Belt, The Tuscarora

Red Belt, the Tuscarora; or, The Death Trail *Red Belt, the Tuscarora; or, The Death Trail* by Dr. Wm. Mason Turner is a frontier adventure serial featuring the seasoned hunter Sampson Lowe (called the Lean Wolf) and the young Tuscarora warrior Red Belt. Set along the Kanawha River, the story opens with an ambush attempt by a white man named Derrick Thorne and the Mingo chief Oo-lum-lah (Wild Hawk). After shots are fired at their canoe, Lowe and Red Belt narrow escape into the forest. They later receive a message via wampum on their dog Eagle's collar, indicating their companion Roy (the Leaping Deer) has been captured. The narrative weaves together wilderness survival, Native American conflict, and frontier gunplay as the protagonists prepare to rescue Roy and confront the Mingo warriors and their dangerous ally Thorne.
