Fire-Eye, the Sea Hyena; or, The Bride of a Buccaneer

This October 1902 issue of M.J. Ivers & Company's pulp magazine features "Fire-Eye, the Sea Hyena; or, The Bride of a Buccaneer" by Colonel Prentiss Ingraham, a romantic adventure serial set during the piracy era. The story opens with Ross Vashti, a wealthy man who has ruined the noble Greyhurst family and stolen the bride (Lady Lois) promised to young sailor Brandt Greyhurst, encountering Satan in a tower ruin. Satan demands Vashti's soul in eighteen years, marking him with a ring and turning his hair white. Parallel narrative introduces Captain Tudor Vashti commanding a British naval yacht on the Thames, who imprisons young officer Brandt Greyhurst (also called Brandt Carey) for desertion, delivering him to the Tower of London. Officers speculate about the captain's recent dark mood since receiving mail from the Indies.
