This issue of *Beadle & Adams* dime novel #845 (June 3, 1885) features "Masked Mark, the Mounted Detective," a Western adventure serial by an unnamed author. Chapter One, "A Beautiful Nemesis," depicts Adola Fee, a grief-stricken woman seeking vengeance for her murdered betrothed Oren Bohee, lying in wait on the Montana prairie. Recognizing the man she believes responsible—the mysterious "Masked Mark"—she ambushes him with a revolver. After a tense chase and failed shots, she confronts the mounted figure at gunpoint, demanding he face justice for the assassination. The man, displaying unflappable composure, identifies himself by her name and responds mockingly to her accusations of murder. The narrative emphasizes Fee's passionate determination and striking appearance as she struggles to execute her revenge.
