However, an African lion named Othmar escapes his cage and traps Zelda Vanderpoer, the show's star performer. The imprisoned Leomeister attempts extortion, demanding Zelda as wife in exchange for recaging the beast. Crimmins instead confronts the lion directly, wielding a steel-studded whip and employing hypnotic "terrible eyes" to subdue and control the animal, leading it back toward its cage while demonstrating unexpected animal-taming prowess beyond detective work.
