This Beadle dime novel (No. 703, April 1892) features "The Grit Twist at Camp Sahara" by William H. Manning, author of "Dead-Shot Paul" and similar western tales. At the mining camp of Sahara, conspirators Gurdon Forrest and Puyallup Peter plot to rob a train carrying miners' wages, believing camp leaders Thomas Hammond and Daniel Wayland have systematically cheated workers. Gurdon struggles with his plan because Olive Hammond, his beloved, is the niece of the target. When Olive encounters him on the road, Gurdon becomes evasive and conflicted, wrestling between his commitment to the oppressed miners' cause and his personal devotion to her. He maintains the conspiracy is serious business he cannot discuss, while Olive senses his emotional turmoil but cannot penetrate his secretiveness.
