Catalog Note *Beadle and Adams*, Vol. LIV, January 20, 1897. This issue features "Curly Rebb's Confession: A Story of Gay Old Times at Frisky Flat" by Jos. E. Badger, Jr., a Western adventure serial. The narrative opens with a stagecoach hold-up on the road to Frisky Flat: masked road-agents ambush the stage driven by Tommy Triplock, shooting the lead mules and forcing surrender. Among the passengers are banker Nathan Piercy and his daughter Eula, young Kent Kerlin (protective of Eula), and two other travelers. During the robbery, one outlaw is accidentally shot and killed when Piercy struggles to protect his daughter from the bandit's gun. The robbers, led by a commanding masked figure, force all passengers from the coach and systematically rob them. The leader specifically targets Piercy, believing he carries more money than the meager wallet found, threatening him by name. A secondary feature, "Verne Velvet, the Ventriloquist of Sport," appears partially legible in OCR.
