Giant George, a mysterious figure, aided in destroying the Panthers. The narrative cuts between this backstory and present troubles: the mining town has collapsed into decline since those exciting events three months prior. Tensions escalate when Sheriff Tom Jones and landlord Hank Holbrook see an incoming stagecoach, triggering Hank's nervous breakdown about wolves.
