When Old Job defends the girl, a mysterious frontiersman named Arizona Alf intervenes, claiming to be Joaquin Murieta's avenger. A fistfight between Alf and La Force ensues. Chapter II shifts to a stagecoach robbery in a mountain gulch, where a masked road-agent halts the coach and demands the passengers exit. The narrative combines mining-camp adventure with criminal intrigue typical of frontier pulp fiction.
