Harry Somers, the Magician

Harry Somers, the Sailor-Boy Magician This serial adventure by S. W. Pearce concerns Harry Somers, an eighteen-year-old sailor-boy sent to sea for his health by his shipowner father. Rescued from a shipwreck with elderly boatswain Bill Travis, Harry takes passage aboard a vessel where the brutal captain has driven the crew to mutiny by shooting a sailor named Tom Lawler from the yard-arm. When the crew revolts at midnight, a desperate battle erupts between the captain and three mates against ten desperate sailors. The mutiny succeeds; the captain lies mortally wounded on deck, cursing those who have overthrown him. The first mate, also wounded, entrusts Harry with a final message for his wife. Harry had previously entertained crew members with feats of legerdemain using articles from a mysterious chest salvaged from the wreck—magic tricks that will apparently play a significant role in his future adventures.
