THE SILVER BUGLE: THE INDIAN MAIDEN OF ST. CROIX *By Lieut. Col. Hazleton. During a violent thunderstorm on June 12th, mysterious bugle blasts sound from "Ashby's Look-out," prompting confusion about the enemy's intentions. Among the refugees is Miss Jerusha Peatt, an unmarried Massachusetts woman who blames Minneapolis's presence for the attack, while the deformed Mr. Hill, bearing Conanchet's torture scars, seeks vengeance. The tale blends romantic melodrama with frontier siege narrative.
