Tim, the Trailer

Tim, the Trailer; or, Caught in His Own Toils This Beadle and Adams dime novel by C. Dunning Clark is set during Tecumseh's era, before the War of 1812. Tim Whalen, an Irish scout in General Harrison's army, attempts to cross the Tippecanoe River after his canoe is stolen. After falling from a log while crossing, he encounters a stranger claiming to be an Indian trader seeking passage. Through cunning conversation, the man reveals himself as James Wilson, a British agent working to incite Native Americans against American forces. He attempts to recruit Tim into espionage activities. The narrative combines frontier adventure with elements of spy intrigue, featuring Tim's colloquial Irish dialect and wry observations about military life, Indian trading, and colonial conflict. The OCR becomes garbled at the conclusion.
