Blue and Gray Weekly, No. 10 (October 14, 1904) This issue of *Blue and Gray Weekly* features serialized stories of the American Civil War aimed at boys. The cover story, "The Girl Spy," by Lieut. Harry Lee, follows Confederate intelligence operations around the Battle of Seven Pines (May 29-31, 1862). The narrative depicts Lieutenant Randolph meeting Miss Nell Prentiss, a young woman conducting espionage for the Confederacy disguised as a Union soldier, who passes him intelligence about Union General McClellan's planned advance on Richmond. She reports Confederate plans to destroy Union bridges and counterattack toward Washington, information allegedly gathered from her position within Union camps. Randolph returns the intelligence via canoe across the Chickamauga River while evading Union patrols. The issue also contains an extensive publisher's catalog advertising instructional booklets on diverse subjects: mesmerism, palmistry, hypnotism, hunting and fishing, fortune-telling, athletics, card tricks, stage magic, mechanical inventions, and letter-writing—each priced at ten cents.
