Kenya Colony and Protectorate Blue Book
· 1936

This is not a pulp magazine cover but an official government publication—a Blue Book documenting the administrative structure, resources, and colonial operations of British Kenya. Such directories served the colonial bureaucracy and investors seeking economic opportunity in the territory. While superficially resembling the commercial adventure magazines that dominated newsstand shelves in the 1930s, Blue Books represented the institutional apparatus behind imperial expansion. The typography and binding reflect the formal conventions of administrative literature rather than the painted sensationalism of pulp fiction, yet both forms circulated the same era's images of Africa and colonial enterprise to British audiences.
