Los hijos de las tinieblas

This Spanish science fiction novel, "Los Hijos de las Tinieblas" (The Children of Darkness) by Ralph Barby, follows independent journalist Cy Sherman as he gains access to a special United Nations emergency session on the evening of May 28. When New York City loses all electrical power, Sherman and Soviet press correspondent Iván Goriev witness a UFO hovering outside the twenty-seventh floor. An extraterrestrial ambassador emerges—a small, pale being with bat-like ears wearing dark glasses and formal attire. The alien introduces himself as representative of the Yamin people, claiming Earth residency and citing humanity's historical oppression of minorities as precedent for their demands. He demonstrates technological superiority by causing the citywide blackout and references the 1960s New York power failure as an earlier Yamin test. The alien warns against resistance, threatening destruction of enemies while emphasizing desire for peaceful coexistence.
