Selección Terror: Algo Horrible en la Ciénaga
"Something Horrible in the Swamp" by Clark Carrados is a crime narrative in two parts. The opening section depicts eight victims of a con artist, Allan Raddison, who has defrauded them of substantial sums (ranging from twelve to twenty thousand pounds over five years). They convene at Hendon Cottage as judge and jury, armed with revolvers. Raddison claims immortality, but they execute him with eight bullets. The conspirators dispose of his body in the nearby swamp and clean the crime scene, agreeing to maintain silence. The second section introduces Hugo Droxton, an applicant for a butler-chauffeur position with Sylvia Forrester in London. Droxton charms both Sylvia and her housekeeper Mrs. Sloan, securing employment at twelve pounds weekly. Sylvia then reveals her secret identity as H. K. Pennicut, an author of detective and suspense novels. She receives news that her work "The Devotee of Death" has been purchased for film adaptation and instructs Droxton to post her acceptance letter.
