Buffalo Bill and the Masked Driver

This French-language Buffalo Bill publication from the pulp magazine series comprises a complete story titled "Un Voyage fatal, ou le Conducteur masqué" (A Fatal Journey, or The Masked Conductor). Buffalo Bill, the famous frontier scout, returns to Fort Rest after reconnaissance and finds the stagecoach running between Fort Rest and Fort Famine through the Ravine of the Dead has been repeatedly attacked and robbed by outlaws. Four conductors have been murdered. The scout offers to provide a masked conductor for the route, requesting Colonel Baird grant the mysterious driver a pass and permission to move freely between forts. Though suspicious, Baird approves. Buffalo Bill then requests a month's leave from regular military duties. He seeks out Brighton, the current driver from Trail End City, to recruit him. The narrative combines Western adventure elements with mystery—the scout's true plan remains concealed even from the commanding officer, echoing his earlier secrecy with the previous commander.
