Buffalo Bill Library, No. 419
This issue contains the opening chapter of "Buffalo Bill in Silver City," a western adventure serial subtitled "Scouts' Stirring Adventures on the Trail of Stolen Treasure." The story concerns two unscrupulous financial agents, Carlos Lerado and Tone Brant, operating in Silver City, Mexico. Facing financial ruin from gambling debts and failed speculation, they plot to intercept a silver shipment from the Blanca Mine worth approximately eighty thousand dollars. The mine-owners have arranged military escort—fifty cavalry soldiers under Rodrigues—complicating their scheme. Brant departs to recruit someone named Zeph Hubbert, apparently essential to executing the theft. Lerado, dining afterward, grows suspicious of four strangers at the hotel, particularly noticing their sudden silence and sidelong glances. The issue includes period advertisements for correspondence courses, air pistols, and watches, typical of contemporary pulp magazine padding.
