Capitán Pantera: La isla prohibida
Catalog Note *La Isla Prohibida* by P. V. Debrigode is an adventure serial set in the Pacific archipelago formerly controlled by Germany. The prologue establishes the 1914 transition of German colonial territories to French, British, and Australian control, narrated through a ceremony on the island of Birara where indigenous Kanakas accept a French official's proclamation. The narrative then shifts to 1920, when the goldless island of Birara has been abandoned by colonial administrators, becoming feared and desolate. Chapter One introduces Captain Ross Maloney, a former Kansas farmhand turned merchant vessel captain commanding the *Panther*, a ship crewed by ninety converted Chinese pirates. Maloney seeks profitable trade routes, but his first mate Tian hints at fortune on a mysterious "Forbidden Island" associated with an ancestral fear. When a new crew member, the Malayan Tandkung, joins the ship, Tian prepares to reveal secrets connected to the island—Tandkung having deserted from an English merchant after stealing a pilot's map.
