Castle of Frankenstein No. 14
· 1969

Castle of Frankenstein merged horror and science fiction fandom through lavish color covers and in-depth genre coverage. This 1969 issue features Star Trek characters in Starfleet uniforms against a moody backdrop, announcing "Star Trek Is Back!" in bold yellow letters. The cover announces the show's revival to devoted fans during the series' syndication boom. Below, a film-strip strip of character portraits in pop-art colors reflects the magazine's cinephile sensibility. Published on pulp-stock as a successor to monster magazines and adventure digests, Castle of Frankenstein captured the moment when television science fiction and classic horror fandom converged into a unified popular culture phenomenon.
