The Ceylon Blue Book

This is a government administrative reference work—the Ceylon Blue Book for 1924, issued by the Department of Census and Statistics. The volume contains comprehensive statistical and fiscal data on the colonial administration, including sections on finance, revenue, and expenditure statements comparing estimated and actual figures across fiscal years; detailed breakdowns of taxation (customs duties, estate duty, stamp duties, registration fees); vital statistics and population data with demographic tables and diagrams tracking births, deaths, and marriages from 1905-1924; agricultural production statistics for major crops including tea, rubber, coconut, cacao, cinnamon, and citronella; trade data on imports and exports with yearly valuations; infrastructure information on railways, tramways, canals, and roads; and institutional records covering education, prisons, hospitals, and charitable societies. The OCR is heavily degraded throughout, making precise reconstruction of numerical tables and detailed statistical entries difficult in many sections.
