Ley Seca

This is issue 1.2 (June 1953) of *Ley Seca* ("No Drink, Honey"), a Spanish translation by José Bilbao published by Editorial Bruguera in Barcelona. The serialized novel follows Ray Garnet, a French soldier of American descent, through World War I and its aftermath. Chapter One depicts military life: Garnet clashes with Sergeant Darsonval over a disputed guard rotation, later proving themselves comrades during intense combat near the Chemin des Dames. After the war, a wounded German soldier named Lorentz encounters Garnet in a shell crater; despite regulations requiring capture, Garnet tends his wounds and releases him, philosophizing on war's arbitrariness. Chapter Two shifts to 1920s Paris, where Garnet works as a wine salesman, deeply indebted to Paula Nicholls, an American cabaret owner, while entangled romantically with Lucía, a hotel proprietor's daughter. Desperate for commission advances from reluctant wine merchants citing economic crisis, Garnet visits Robert Doriot's establishment *Vert Galant* late at night. The narrative combines military adventure with post-war social drama and romantic complications in Paris.
