Detective Story Magazine, Vol. VI, No. 1
This issue of Detective Story Magazine (Vol. 6, No. 1, January 5, 1917) contains two novelettes, two serials, and five short stories. The featured serial "His Hand and Seal" by Carolyn Wells concerns Isabel Curwood, a wealthy young woman of independent means who has just come of age and will soon claim her fortune from her guardian, Guarcly Weatherby. Isabel is engaged to Edwin Stuart despite family disapproval—her mother and sister favor a Russian count. Isabel insists on managing her own financial affairs rather than surrendering control to her future husband. The issue includes novelettes "The White Cell" by Gregory Hay and "Li Shoon's Nine Lives" by H. Irving Hancock, plus stories by Wilder Anthony, Sergeant Ryan, and Scott Campbell. Supplementary features cover radium's value, Scotland Yard personnel, and peculiar police matters.
