La raqueta de oro
Museum Catalog Note *La Raqueta de Oro* (The Golden Racket), by Joseph Berna, is a sports thriller serialized in this 1982 Spanish pulp collection. Twenty-four-year-old American tennis champion Roddy Spencer arrives in Miami for a prestigious tournament at the Madison Club, where the prize is a golden racket. The story opens with Spencer's arrival at the airport, where he meets Sheila Dowell, an attractive young American fan who has been waiting days for his arrival. She offers him a ride to his hotel in her Ford-Cobra. As they drive, Sheila mentions she has bet heavily on Spencer winning the tournament. During their drive, they notice a blue Cadillac following them from the airport. When Sheila tests whether they're being followed by slowing down, the Cadillac maintains distance behind them, confirming suspicious pursuit. The narrative is cut off mid-sentence.
