Doc Savage: La Muerte Verde

This Spanish-language pulp magazine issue, translated as "The Green Death," by Kenneth Robeson, presents an adventure serial set primarily in Brazil's unexplored Matto Grosso region. The narrative begins with a tall, thin man fleeing through jungle pursued by indigenous warriors with poisoned arrows, who encounters an eerie, flower-scented death that transforms victims into mummified green corpses. The story shifts to explorers Hugo Parks and two companions who emerge as sole survivors of a twenty-member expedition into the "Green Hell," claiming discovery of a lost city inhabited by white Indians guarded by this lethal "green death." Despite skepticism from press and authorities, the trio contacts Doc Savage (Clark Savage Junior), the world-renowned scientist and crime-fighter. One survivor, disguised as "Frick," visits Doc's Manhattan skyscraper office only to succumb to the curse himself, his body turning green before Doc Savage. The subsequent scene reveals Doc's office contains two unusual animal companions—a bizarre hog-like creature and a long-armed monkey engaged in dialogue.
