El Dragón de Fuego / Los Ojos de Buda

This Spanish-language pulp serial, titled *Los Ojos del Buda* (The Eyes of the Buddha) by Fidel Prado Duque, features three adventurers—Regis, a professor named Karus, and Kao, a Chinese servant—trapped in a burning mill by hostile Chinese forces. Chapter one, "Salvados de Milagro" (Saved by Miracle), chronicles their escape. When their attackers set the mill ablaze, the trio discovers a hidden basement beneath rice sacks and descends through a trapdoor. They plug gaps with sacks to block smoke, then locate an air vent and dig through to escape. Upon emerging, Regis encounters a lone Chinese guard stationed to watch for survivors. After subduing the guard with an iron bar and taking his revolver, Regis interrogates him, learning the main force has departed for Lanchen to report to someone named Wang-Chen, leaving this guardian for twenty-four hours. The group strips and dresses Kao in the guard's clothes, then seals the prisoner in the basement. A golden ring bearing a dragon emblem is recovered—apparently a sect insignia potentially useful later. The chapter ends as they prepare to depart the ruins.
