Fight Stories, June 1928
Fight Stories, Vol. 1, No. 1 (June 1928), features seven boxing stories spanning complete novels to short fiction. The lead story, "Shoot That Left!" by George Bruce, follows Buster Martin, a young lightweight boxer managed by the excitable "Moan" Cassidy, as Martin dominates Kid McCabe in the ring. Jack Kofoed contributes a life-story serial on Battling Nelson, the durable Danish fighter known for relentless aggression. T. W. Ford's "Battlin' Beppo" depicts a fighter confronting stacked odds. Arthur J. Burks' "Referee's Decision" combines ring action with psychological drama. Jack Byrne's "Breed of Champions" explores heredity and cowardice. Additional features include "Famous Fights I Have Seen" by an eyewitness to Ketchel versus Papke, E. R. Vadeboncoeur's "The Unknown Kid," trainer Jimmy De Forest's "Keeping Fit" instructional piece, and a readers' forum titled "The Neutral Corner." An advertisement for aviation training occupies the cover.
