This issue of Frank Tousey's pulp magazine features the serial "Fred Fearnot Homeward Bound, or Shadowed by Scotland Yard" by Hal Standish. In the opening chapter, "The Fun at the Fair," Fred Fearnot and companions tour Ireland by coach and wagon, attracting suspicious attention from constabulary who suspect them of being American political agitators. The chapter focuses on Fearnot's pranks using ventriloquism to make animals—including goats, pigs, cows, and ducks—verbally abuse the constables with Irish slurs. The mock-talking animals attract crowds, embarrass and frustrate the officers, and inadvertently help a young goat vendor sell his animals for triple their value. The issue also includes a catalog of instructional books covering magic tricks, athletic training, mechanics, fortune-telling, and boating—all advertised for individual purchase or in discounted bundles.
