Museum Catalog Note This July 7, 1905 issue of a weekly pulp magazine features the opening installment of "Fred Fearaot in a Death Trap: Or, Lost in the Mammoth Caves" by Hal Standish. The adventure serial follows Fred and his companion Terry Olcott discussing their financial prospects and plans to relocate west to purchase a ranch. They debate leaving New York's financial district after favorable dealings there, with Miss Wingate encouraging them to bring companions to South Dakota. Jack Cameron, their office boy, expresses eagerness to join their westward venture, proposing to purchase nearby ranch land. The narrative establishes the protagonists' intent to escape Wall Street risks and establish themselves as ranchers.
