Fred Fearnot's Mistake
This is a serial story by Hal Standish, serialized in *Work and Win*, a weekly pulp magazine. The installment begins with Fred Fearnot and Terry Olcott returning to New York by train with Tom Tipps and his wife after securing Tom's gubernatorial pardon for killing a man who assaulted Mrs. Tipps. The trio had faced hostility from the dead man's associates in North Carolina during their efforts to save Tom from execution.
Upon returning home, Fred reports to his family and visits a museum on the West Side where he manages theatrical performers—including Dick Duncan, Joe Jencks, and three actresses (Flossie, Kellie, and Elsie). The group celebrates Tom's reprieve, and Fred suggests the performers develop new material for their productions. The story concludes with Terry announcing plans to visit his home in Fredonia, to his mother's persistent requests, while Fred remains in New York managing the theatrical enterprise.
