French Night Life, Vol. II, No. 4 (April 1936) This pulp magazine contains seven stories set in Paris and France. "Gigolo for Madame" by Walter Branson depicts Nanette, a young chambermaid hired by the voluptuous Madame Courcelle with specific intimate expectations. "Substitute Bride" by Dick Bowen follows Victoire Poiron and Heloise Ravelle, both heartbroken from a wedding, who attempt to drown their sorrows in cognac at her apartment. "A Model's Dilemma" by Lester James centers on Sue Chavaux, hired as a fashion model after a degrading audition with manager Gaspard Brielle; she is later framed for shoplifting by her Apache ex-lover and hides in a stranger's automobile. "Hidden Charms" by Mlle. Renee features Terry Trask, an American vacationing in Paris in a borrowed studio apartment, enchanted by Madelon Descamps, the concierge's daughter, despite attempts by other women to seduce him. The issue also includes "Femmes de Paris" and "Maid on the Farm" by Phil Strange, plus "Love Goes 'Round and 'Round" by Joseph Lichtblau.
