Hinckley depicts a starship crew whose vessel and bodies are components of an alien game played on a fantastical board. "The Pity of the Wood" by Joy Leache tells of crew member Tob who falls in love with Gloria, a woman from a human colony planet established 420 years prior by shipwreck; her mysterious behavior suggests hidden truths about her nature. Kate Wilhelm's "The Trouble With Toys" features Humphreys confronting unsettling implications of dream-fulfilling children's toys. "You Do Something To Me" by Calvin M. Knox concerns the galaxy-wide celebrity of a Miss Universe pageant winner. Richard Wilson's "Frostbite" is a brief survival story set on Halfworld. A non-fiction article by Thomas N.
