Hong Kong Blue Book for the Year, 1919
· 1920

This administrative directory's cover features an heavily weathered surface in deep indigo and mustard tones, with scattered circular marks suggesting age and exposure. The Hong Kong Blue Book was an official government publication listing civil servants, regulations, and commercial information for the British colony. Unlike the lurid pulp magazines that simultaneously captivated readers with adventure tales and exotic locales, this volume served practical bureaucratic functions. Yet both shared the era's visual language of imperial commerce and colonial administration—the worn, mottled surface here echoing the material conditions of a document circulated through tropical humidity and official hands.
