JUNGLE STORIES, Winter 1948-49 This issue features adventure tales set in African and jungle settings. The lead story, "The Lost Beasts of TA'TAMBA" by John Peter Drummond, is a full-length Ki-Gor novel in which the titular "White Lord of the Jungle" encounters Brend, a brown-skinned boy from a distant valley kingdom called Ramfis, who has fled after his guardian was mysteriously poisoned. Ki-Gor agrees to help Brend return home to reclaim his rightful place as young king against the usurper Durga-Rama and his thousand warrior-beasts. Three novelets follow: "Tomtom Tragedy" by Wilton Hanard about a trouble-shooter's confrontation with juju magic on the veldt; "Lost Safari" by Alexander Wallace featuring a veteran guide leading scientists through forbidden jungle despite personal stakes; and Dan Cushman's "Voodoo Fangs," exploring fire-juju and the torments of Luassa Kraal. Two short stories complete the issue: Walter James Sheldon's "The Long Fear," depicting white colonists' psychological breakdown in native villages, and James Blish's "Serpent's Fetish," concerning an ancient valley of dragons.
