Studies in Saffron This issue (May 1919, Vol. XVIII, No. 4) contains fiction, drama, poetry, and nonfiction. Featured works include Thomas Grant Springer's serial "Studies in Saffron" (Part I: "The Blood of the Dragon"), following Kan Wong, a Chinese sampan boatman of noble ancestry degraded by the Taiping Rebellion, who signs a contract for foreign labor aboard a steamship in Shanghai.
