Magazine of Horror, December, No. 30 This issue contains three supernatural stories. "Satan's Servants" by Robert Bloch follows Gideon Godfrey, a man of faith who travels to the New England town of Roodsford to combat evil. Discovering a witches' coven led by the elder Frye, Gideon infiltrates their ranks by claiming to be an infernal messenger. As the Sabbat approaches, he retrieves a buried Bible and uses it to violently disrupt their ceremony. A second narrative, apparently continuing or related, depicts a character named Karl Harhhoffer awakening with amnesia after witnessing a cross-shaped lightning bolt. David H. Keller's "The Battle of the Toads" recounts an adventure where a young man named Hubbardire encounters a magical toad-sorcerer in a ruined Cornish castle, obtaining through three wishes a golden key that grants him dominion over Cornwall. The issue also includes "Speak for Yourself, John Quincy," featuring the historical figure John Quincy Adams confronted with an impossible future-viewing device by an Emigration Official, plus verse by Robert E. Howard.
