The Pawnee Chief
Museum Catalog Entry This pulp adventure magazine features a serialized Western tale, "With Buffalo Bill at Golden Spur Diggings," following the famous scout Buffalo Bill and his Pawnee ally Quick Shot. The narrative opens with the two escaping Blackfeet captors after Picture Eyes, daughter of chief Big Game (whom Bill previously rescued), enables their flight from the Indian village. They ride to warn Golden Spur mining settlement of an impending Blackfeet attack. Upon arrival, Buffalo Bill encounters Battler Starr, a wealthy miner and rival with undisclosed causes for enmity. The story develops into a murder mystery: a miner named Brisket is killed and gold stolen, with suspicion falling on Tom Tasker. Buffalo Bill discovers Starr as the actual thief and confronts him. Starr counters by accusing Tasker of Brisket's murder, claiming Quick Shot witnessed the crime. The serial combines frontier action with detective elements as Buffalo Bill investigates the accusations.
