The Shadow of the Astral
The Shadow of the Astral This is a metaphysical novel by Louis Plante, published in 1921 by Austin Publishing Company. The narrative follows two central characters: Herminio, a mysterious anchorite living in solitude in the Swiss Alps, and Anthony, a truth-seeker. Herminio, who appears ageless despite reported residence in the region for forty-five years, lives ascetically on milk, fruit, and nuts while serving as spiritual advisor to nearby villagers. The story traces Anthony's spiritual journey through romance with Regina, a flower girl; adventures in the Alps; encounters with Herminio; tragic events including the destruction of Messina; and ultimately a transformative revelation culminating in encounters with "The Astral Players"—supernatural entities that provide instruction through entertainment. The novel incorporates poetry throughout and expounds on occult laws, spiritual guardianship, and the soul's evolution from material consciousness toward higher spiritual awareness.
