When Grimley, a police officer, arrives and confirms Karl's description matches Salter exactly, he deduces the fugitive hides near Foxwood. Grimley reports this to Scotland Yard, and the shrewd officer Tatton is assigned the case to recapture Salter. The chapter concludes as Tatton arrives at Foxwood station and takes lodgings in Paradise Row at the home of Widow Jinks, positioning himself to investigate the neighborhood.
